Originally from and trained in England, Dr Emma has 24 years of experience as a doctor. Having started out planning a career in Physics, she completed a Masters degree in Medical & Natural Sciences at Kings College, Cambridge and went on to clinical studies at St George’s Hospital Medical School London. Here she received Honours in Medicine, a Merit in Surgery and the Prize in her Paediatric Clinical Finals.

While living in the North of England in Yorkshire and Lancashire, she completed 4 years of hospital and hospice rotations and went on to gain Diplomas in Geriatric Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Sexual Health and Contraception. She was awarded a distinction for her Membership Examination for the Royal College of General Practitioners.

She then moved back down South and co-owned a large Teaching General Practice of 9 partners in Brighton and Hove for 11 years. During this time, she was Clinical Lead for Business, Women’s health and Contraception, Gastroenterology, Vascular and General Surgery, Radiology, IT and Web based Clinical Guidelines and Management. She coordinated and led city wide cooperative bids for new Clinical Services and GP Led walk in centre. She piloted new models of care improving access within her own practice, a citywide Roving GP visiting service, long term condition and nursing homes pilots and was on the small start-up team for a GP lead Referral management company for which she then served as Medical and Finance Director. She has been both on the commissioning and provision side of several large tender processes. She also enjoyed working part time as a salaried GP in a deprived area of East Brighton at the same time as serving at her Teaching Practice in Hove. She was a regular Medical Officer for the Family Planning service in the evenings as well as working at the local GP out-of-hours GP Cooperative and the Urgent Care centre at the Hospital. In her 3 + years at the Primary Care Trust in Commissioning roles, she was Chair of the Transforming Urgent Care network as well as the Chairperson of the local Clinical Commissioning Consortium and was invited to join the Department of Health’s Clinical Commissioning Champion’s team in London.
She most enjoys the coal face clinical practice and has a broad interest across the field of medicine She has also always had an interest in the nutritional, psychological and functional side of medicine.

She and her Kiwi husband relocated to New Zealand so that their children could benefit from a better climate and outdoor life here. She initially worked for a year as a full-time rural GP with 24-hour responsibility in a 1 in 5 rotation due to the remote setting. She has enjoyed living in Tauranga for 5 years working in the Accident and Healthcare Centre, City Centre Medical General Practice and BOPSASS (Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Service). She has enjoyed attending the Australasian Academy of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine courses in Queensland and two PRIME courses Emergency Response courses, one Adult and one Paediatric training course Medical Sexual Assault Clinicians Aotearoa. She Achieved her Advanced Paediatric Life Support exam last year. She is now studying to specialise in Musculoskeletal Medicine due to her interest in functional medicine, complex physical syndromes and chronic pain conditions.

She lives in Tauranga with her family including two dogs and a bearded dragon. In her spare time she enjoys hanging out with her children, Yoga, Taiji, cycling, hiking, charity work with teens and kayaking.
